LYDIA TRETHEWEY

2015

Engaging with landscape and photochemical processes, these works explore invisibility through a medium conventionally associated with the visible.

Here the world of the eyes slips away, a scotoma or blind spot, and the everday becomes elusive. Bitumen, clumping grass and concrete paths, penumbral shadows, are at once evident and undisclosed. Invisibility here is both experiential and material, the slippage of known and unknown.

These works form the beginning of my explorations into the quotidian-sublime.
